Review : Aquaman
Who’s swimming back into theaters? My Man! Well specifically Aquaman, the aquatic ruler of the seas and my heart as he is truly the king of seven seas. Aquaman sees Arthur getting his own origin story as a child born of a human (Temuera Morrison) and an Atlantean (Nicole Kidman) who journeys into the depths of the ocean to become its ruler. Fighting against his half brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) who sits on the throne while being secretly helped by Atlanteans Mera (Amber Heard) and Vulko (Willem Dafoe).
The majority of this success is down to Jason Momoa. After a supporting turn in Justice League and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in BvS:DoJ, here he’s allowed to let his hair down and really get into the role whom truly is the king of seven seas. The film flies by purely based on his charisma as he truly drives this movie form his charm is what makes you love it.
The world of Atlantis is lit in a heavenly glow, as to note its status as the metropolitan hub of the undersea community. Each of the different kingdoms have their distinct varieties of design that set them apart and help set the stage for the conflict of these various homelands to clash as they are all such vastly different looking areas. Willem Dafoe and Dolph Lundgren hold a sense of weight as they are such good in their roles.
Who provides the voice of an ancient behemoth of a sea monster? Why the most obvious casting of Mary Poppins herself Julie Andrews as she gives out such a fun role for her small part. Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) really is amazing as the main villain in my eyes as he is very amazing in his role. Orm (Patrick Wilson) is very good but i feel he was not as interesting as he could have been with some time to better grow their bond. There are easily some moments that fell prey to being cliché which were heightened by dramatic cinematography. But these are barely a blink in the extravagant design of Aquaman’s world boasted beautifully by Wan’s directing eye that is such powerful moments of awe and amazing story. The movie begins with Arthur’s parents, played by Nicole Kidman and Temuera Morrison, who were de-aged with some amazing visual effects. The technology hasn’t yet reached the point of perfection, but its use in Aquaman is easily the best I have seen you haven’t yet delved into the comic book world of Aquaman, Arthur and Mera are about as classic as Superman and Lois Lane. Although there wasn’t a strong chemistry between the actors on screen, the pair shared what would be the best superhero kiss in cinematic history. Move over Spiderman and Mary Jane, you’ve got competition as this scene was such a joy to watch upon the screen.
James Wan’s Aquaman is an amazing visual journey into the depths of Atlantis that shows Arthur Curry to be a more than capable superhero after the divisive Justice League film. The story is laden with exposition and information, but the visuals and actions will be enough to leave audiences in awe with such good acting and a very powerful story. Aquaman is here to show you that the power of aquaman to last for so long in comics is his persona. He is the king of the seven seas and an amazing movie that is truly one of a kind superhero classic you will simply enjoy to watch anytime. Its ends with him saying he is aquaman,he is the king of the movies to me this year as its the best superhero movie of the year.
