Today I review the Michael Curtiz/Robert Rossen adaptation of Jack London’s famous novel the sea wolf which I frankly just watched recently as I brought it recently which is the Warner brothers archive Blu-ray release of this movie which is a remastered version with lost scenes we have not seen as this wonderful movie really speaks about Nazi fascism in a way that stands out. I would also love to wish Ida Lupino a happy 100 years old.

So now to review this classic movie

the sea wolf review

The sea wolf  takes one  of the most famous jack London novels of same name in a way that really shines upon your viewing of it on the screen. The  sea wolf is loosely based upon the book.  Edward G. Robinson does one of his finest hours  of acting as the cruel captain of the ghost a ship which no one wants to sail upon. Edward G. Robinson puts his own brand of cruelty on the role of a freighter captain who tyrannizes his crew and some unexpected passengers in such a marvelous acting performance.

Ida Lupino and John Garfield and Alexander Knox all  play in a crew of a ship that is basically a ship that feels like its form hell in some regards as they all give out such marvelous acting and performances that all stand out as you watch them on screen.

This Michael Curtiz/Robert Rossen adaptation of Jack London well known novel  was mostly shot on one location as it has lots of atmospheric shots, tons of memorable conflicting personalities(Edward G. Robinson, Alexander Knox, John Garfield, Barry Fitzgerald, Gene Lockhart, an underserved Ida Lupino) It really shines with this new Blu-ray release.  It is Rousing old-school sea adventure yarn functioning as an allegory for the burgeoning Nazi dictatorship in Europe in 1941. It is a truly marvelous classic you should see today.

In A Lonely Place.

In a Lonely Place

https://www.facebook.com/Wolffianclassicmoviesdigest

Today I review In a Lonely Place which is a fine noir classic about Hollywood. Let us review this classic movie today.

In a Lonely Place review

Nicholas Ray’s in the lonely place presents us a very amazing noir classic about a Hollywood writer whose temper leads to accusations of murder and conflicted relationship. I would say this film stands among other Nicholas Ray classics such as they live by night and rebel without a cause and Johnny Guitar  and On dangerous ground. Martin Scorsese and Wim Wenders are among fans of his movies.

Humphrey Bogart’s performance in a Lonely Place. Humphrey Bogart shows what he capable in his skills as an actor to do on the screen. Humphrey Bogart plays Dixon Steele in his darkest role on the screen. He shows off his true darkness of his soul to give us his finest hour on the screen. Gloria Grahame plays her finest hour on screen as Laurel Gray whom is one dam amazing character on the screen. It plays to the under-rated nature of Gloria Grahame this role. It shows how this under-rated actress could do such amazing acting.

Humphrey Bogart  and Gloria Graham  have electrifying chemistry on screen together.

In A Lonely Place is a fabulous picture which was frankly never was nominated for any Oscars at all.

In A Lonely Place is told in two parts to its overall tale. The first part of the movie deals with Dixon Steele and his darker traits unfolding on screen.  We see the relationship of Dixon Steele and Laurel Gray unfolding on the screen. The movie becomes wilder and more intense as it changes gears into the second part of the tale. The second part of the tale is Laurel Gray’s tension filled moments unfold on the screen. Nicholas Ray merges both parts together dabs them with darkly affecting visuals to make one interesting movie. The black and white cinematography of this movie is truly amazing to see unfold on the screen. In the lonely place is true gem of movies that you will want to watch again and again.

The Ruth rating:five bette's

Today i reviewed n A Lonely Place  as it told a tale about a Hollywood screenwriter. Nicolas ray made such a an amazing classic movie that you will enjoy anytime to watch on the screen. I hope you enjoyed my review of this classic movie. I will return in the future for another review.

42nd Street review

42nd Street (Warner Brothers, 1933)  was directed by Lloyd Bacon.  42nd Street  is  simply a a marvelous musical. I adore to watch 42nd Street  again and again often on the screen.  Busby Berkeley choreographed many enjoyable numbers. The brutal and endless rehearsals along with the wise cracks and the backstage intrigues are part of this movies charm as it presents the backstage drama of making a big show on the stage. Its famous numbers such as shuffle off to buffalo and “(I’m) Young and Healthy”, and “42nd Street in the last 30 minutes of the show all really are such magical numbers. Ruby Keeler  gives out a marvelous performance on the screen.as Peggy Sawyer as it is such a marvelous performance on the screen.  This movie has marvelous performances by everyone in its cast.  The supporting cast is full of familiar faces from the ’30’s that give out marvelous performances.

Busby Berkeley’s groundbreaking choreography bursts on to the screen late in the film in a couple of dazzling production numbers in the end that all really stand out as they unfold on the screen.  42nd Street’s backstage drama is my favorite part of this marvelous movie to watch all drama unfold on screen. 42nd Street is a marvelous classic you should see today.

gold diggers of 1933 review

gold diggers of 1933 directed by Mervyn LeRoy brings the viewer back to the simple style of dance with Busby Berkeley directed and choreographed the dance scenes that all feel such fun to watch unfold on the screen. This enjoyable pre-code classic may be one of those classics that always feels so good to watch unfold on the screen.

The marvelous cast of talents in gold diggers of 1933  such as Ruby Keeler,Joan Blondell, Aline MacMahon, Dick Powell, Guy Kibbee, Warren William, Ginger Rogers all star in this movie giving out wonderful performances  on the screen.  We’re In The Money’ (really titled ‘The Gold Digger’s Song’) can stand alone from the film’s score.  Warren and Dubin’s other efforts of this movie  all work perfectly with Berkeley’s inspired production numbers that all really are wonderful joys to watch unfold on the screen.. I adore all of the musical numbers of this movie so much.

Shadow Waltz is elegant and beautiful to watch unfold on the screen.  It’s visual poetry that really shines on screen.  Its lovely and enchanting to watch unfold on screen. It is a such a marvelous gem of a scene to watch unfold on the screen.

Remember My Forgotten Man is another musical number that really is something of a special musical number that  really shines to watch unfold on the screen. The number climaxes with an enormous arch of soldiers looming over the mass of homeless men and their desperate women that showcases the hardships of that era.

It’s a rousing finale is one of the greatest combinations of cinematography, music, singing, choreography in one musical number that showcases the magic of musicals. This is a marvelous classic you should see today.

Footlight Parade review

James Cagney stars as a fledgling producer who finds himself at odds with his workers, financiers and his greedy ex-wife when he tries to produce live musicals for movie-going audiences. This movie Co-stars Joan Blondell and Dick Powell with spectacular Busby Berkeley dance sequences. (Plot off net)

By a Waterfall is a marvelous musical number that I think may be one of the films stand out numbers. The entire number gives of a heavy Garden of Eden vibe with Dick Powell sits by a brook and daydreams of his sweetheart, Ruby Keeler. The waterfall becomes more and more elaborate, becoming an art deco swimming pool and eventually a spiral fountain of women as the scene really shines to show off the marvelous wonders that Busby Berkeley creates on the screen is so marvelous to watch unfold on the screen.

Honeymoon Hotel is another musical number that is risque with an upbeat piece of music about a couple who are desperately trying to fornicate. They make an appointment to wed at the Honeymoon Hotel. It is a marvelous scene I adore to watch unfold on the screen.

The third and last number of this movie finally sees James Cagney getting to try out his dancing chops in a normal number by compassion to the other numbers. The man’s ability to tame the legendary Shanghai Lil certainly helps him regain his own masculinity. The idea of a man’s own sense of himself being determined by the woman he’s with is a theme that plays a lot into romantic comedies as it’s truly something fun to watch this scene unfold on the screen. This magical number is truly a wonder to watch on the screen.

Footlight Parade is a delightful musical gem you should see today.

Dames review

Dames bites back at the Hays Code right as it was starting to get enforced in such a fun musical gem with choreography by Busby Berkeley that really is fun to watch unfold on the screen.  Dames” is extremely entertaining at virtually every moment as it a delightful musical gem with tons of comic wit and charm that will you enjoy to watch anytime.

The first strong point is the excellent comedic plot, better than that in 42nd Street, about the same as Footlght Parade.Guy Kibbe gives out a wonderful performance. Hugh Herbert and Zasu Pitts are great in their respective roles on the screen. I would say Joan Blondell really shines in her role too as she has such wonderful wit and humor. Its musical numbers all are fun little numbers that you will enjoy watching unfold on the screen.

Only Have Eyes for You has a handful of my favorite shots to watch unfold on the screen as it’s simply marvelous to watch Ruby Keeler come out of the eye as she comes out of the glance of obsession in a way. All three of the big production numbers in the film share several traits and meanings that all feel such connections to each other as reflective of a whole fun little musical as the numbers all feel such reflective joy to them. I simply love them all as each musical scene is marvelous to watch on screen.

Try to See It My Way, Baby completely breaks out, never traipsing into one of Berkeley’s signature visual extravaganzas. But that doesn’t make it any less significant as this is last number it does stand out.  Busby Berkeley’s choreography Incredible, imaginative and thoroughly astounding. Berkeley always stands out such as he does in dames as. His choreography is among the greatest things ever committed to a cinema screen as this trait really does show in this wonderful musical classic with so many ranging numbers that all show off his wonderful work on the screen.

The movie Dames is extremely entertaining at virtually every moment with such marvelous musical numbers with wonderful acting and classical choreography that all sync together to make such a marvelous classic.  Busby Berkeley/Warner Bros. musicals all are such fun to watch as I often find self re-watching this classic movie often. Dames is a marvelous classic that is simply marvelous to watch unfold on the screen as simply to watch on the screen.

RUBY KEELER and Busby Berkeley always manages to make such enjoyable movies together as they did four movies together as she went from Broadway to the big screen in standout musical numbers that all are such fun to watch unfold on the screen. Busby Berkeley/Warner Bros. musicals all are such fun to watch as I often find self re-watching this classic movie often so today I enjoyed to talk these movies so much today for The Busby Berkeley Blogathon today as I feel so much joy to talk them so much as always check out other posts form the event as I hope you enjoyed my talk about RUBY KEELER and Busby Berkeley today as I do hope you join me next time for another review.

Eugene Pallette:WHAT A CHARACTER

Eugene Paulette:WHAT  A CHARACTER

https://www.facebook.com/Wolffianclassicmoviesdigest

So today I talk about  Eugene Paulette for What A Character! blogathon hosted by Once Upon a ScreenOutspoken and Freckled, and Paula’s Cinema Club. This post is written in conjunction with the What a Character! blogathon for it to honor the wonderful Character actor Eugene Paulette i talk about him for my tribute today in my artcle today.  If you want to check out posts form this event please do so anytime at  Once Upon a ScreenOutspoken and Freckled, and Paula’s Cinema Club.  So let’s begin to honor this wonderful Character actor today.

The Adventures of Robin Hood

The adventure of Robin Hood is one most colorful costume dramas, swashbucklers, and romantically-tinged adventure films in film history that you will simply to adore watch anytime.

Errol Flynn shines in his performance as robin hood as he plays the definitive Robin Hood on screen.  It expertly tells the story of the heroic Robin and his Sherwood Forest followers, who saved England from royal treachery by scheming nobles during the absence of the crusading and captured-ransomed King Richard the Lion-Hearted. And it tells the fairy-tale romance with nostalgic chivalry, colorful pageantry and simple righteousness triumphant over villainous and evil might, and spectacular action. The film would not be a masterpiece without the casting not just of Flynn and de Havilland, who are such wonderful joys to watch on screen. The  supporting stars of this movie such as Claude Rains, as the effete Prince John; Basil Rathbone, as the snaky Sir Guy of Gisbourne, and Patric Knowles, Eugene Pallette playing little john in one of his finest roles on the screen. The entire cast gives out marvelous performances.

Unlike modern films where superstars dominate every scene, the Hollywood films of the golden era have depth in writing and casting, so the story can resonate with more than one tone. The movie was initially directed by William Keighley (“Each Dawn I Die”), but Hal Wallis at Warner Bros thought the Sherwood scenes, filmed on location in Chico, California, lacked vitality, and they replaced him with Michael Curtiz (“Angels with Dirty Faces”; “Casablanca”), who added just that. He filmed additional scenes of the merry men preparing for and then attacking the caravan and all of that climbing, running and jumping, sometimes directly at the camera, feel like primers for the masculine energy of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It is one of those charming classic gems that anyone can enjoy.

The Lady Eve (1941)

It’s no accident when wealthy Charles (Henry Fonda) falls for Jean (Barbara Stanwyck). Jean is a con artist with her sights set on Charles’ fortune. Matters complicate when Jean starts falling for her mark. Jean is fixated on revenge and still pining for the millionaire, devises a plan to get back in Charles’ life. With love and payback on her mind, she reintroduces herself to Charles, this time as an aristocrat named Lady Eve Sidwich.

The Lady Eve is one of my favorite movies of the 1940’s. It is one of the best movies that Barbara Stanwyck ever on the screen. This comedy treat truly always delights me anytime I watch it on the screen. Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck truly shine together as a duo as both acting legends give us their finest performances all time on the screen. It has brilliant writing and direction provided by Preston Sturge whom crafts a wonderful comedy classic.  Eugene Pallette plays mr pike whom is a another wonderful performance for this wonderful actor on the screen. This is a marvelous comedy classic that will delight you today.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a classic for good reason. It reinforces qualities that many of us have lost along the way: idealism, strong, unshakable belief, never quitting, honesty and patriotism. Frank Capra’s knack for getting the best out of JAMES STEWART and JEAN ARTHUR is demonstrated here with both stars giving superb performances on the screen. The supporting casts of actors all give out marvelous performances on the screen. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a wonderful movie that you should see today.

The wonderful Character actor Eugene Paulette whom i talk about some of his classic roles he played on the screen. He was a marvelous actor that played many wonderful roles on the screen. I hope you check out other posts form this wonderful blogathon honoring wonderful legends of the screen. I would love to thank the hosts to this wonderful blogathon. I hope you join me in the future for another review on my blog.

The Shop Around the Corner

The Shop Around the Corner(https://www.facebook.com/Wolffianclassicmoviesdigest)

So today I talk about the The Shop Around the Corner which is directed by Ernst Lubitsch whom is such a wonderful director with many wonderful classics i adore to watch often. Lubitsch’s charming masterpiece, so often imitated and re-adapted since it appeared in 1940 as its so charming and enduring to watch on screen as today i talk about why i adore this classic so much.

The Shop Around the Corner review

Ernst Lubitsch’s charming masterpiece is often imitated and re-adapted since it appeared in 1940 on the screens as it is one of those rare films that is simply perfect form beginning to end.. Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart worked in several films together over their film history on the screen as both of them give out their finest performances ever on the screen. Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan play off each other well as they are a perfect pair to watch on the screen. Frank Morgan is truly wonderful in his performance as the owner of the shop as he gives out his finest performance ever on the screen.

The Shop Around the Corner is a charming comedy gem in Ernst Lubitsch had another quiet triumph added to his credit with this lovely film as this charming little shop could be set anywhere in the world. The shop is a life microcosm with its little quiet joys and its bitter disappointments it feels very close to frank Capra in its charms you see unfold on the screen.  It is one of the sweetest and most charming of comedies all time. Everything works out perfectly in this perfect film which was often remade but never matched to same level as this marvelous classic gem.

I will begin my review now of this classic gem.

Camille review

Camille of all love stories ever put to the screen few are done as good as this movie is done for the screen. It is a movie about unquestionable love from a lady that has played many men and that has been played many times over when she meets a younger man she finds love to be the happiest girl on earth as she gets sick in the end. It is truly very sad to watch her lose her love on the screen.

Greta Garbo channels the soul of this damaged soul so perfectly in her performance. She pulls at your heart strings by her acting skills for the screen. This movie shows you why Garbo was such an amazing legend that acted on the screen..Robert Taylor plays one wonderful role in the movie. The supporting performances of the cast of this movie are all wonderful to watch unfold on the screen. George Cukor crafted out one of his finest classics all time. The costumes are gorgeous as an example of French extravagance despite the fact that Camille was made in the 30s. Greta Garbo earned an Academy Award nomination and the New York Film Critics Best Actress Award for her memorable work in which you can see why in this movie as it is truly an amazing performance  to watch unfold on the screen.

Camille is a film that will live on forever in our hearts. This movie is a wonderful gem that you should see today.
